Cleckheaton RUFC

Festival lesson

by Matthew Wood

Festival rugby this week well organized and hosted by Old Brods as Cleck were drawn in pool A with Old Rishworthians, Scunthorpe A, Skipton and Ilkley, with a couple of key players missing this was a chance for the team to pull together and continue their development. After watching two matches Cleck started their campaign against a strong Rishworthian team who put three trys past Cleck to comfortable win. Next up was Skipton and after some good battles already this season this was no exception. With a much better rugby performance Tom Oldroyd got the first score but it was Skipton who ran out 2-1 victors in a close game. Third match was Ilkley and after conceding early Cleck were much more clinical rucking better and passing the ball around. Veron Dhesi with two trys and Aaron Jackson sneaking over the team took a deserved lead. Ilkley responded before Tom Oldroyd sealed a 4-2 victory. Finally Cleck faced Scunthorpe A and were second best, Scunthorpe played basic rugby well and took their opportunities as they won 8-0. So fourth in the group but some good performances throughout the tournament.
