Cleckheaton Sign-Off In Style and Claim 3rd Spot

Cleck put in a sterling performance in the last game of the season and posted their highest points haul of the year with a 48-8 win over Morpeth.

Ed Chappelow, James Wilson, Martin Woodhead, Ross Hayden (2), Lee Queeley & Mark Sergeant shook off the after effects of last night's club dinner to cross the whitewash, Iain Gordon also rounded off an excellent game with 5 conversions and a penalty.

Morpeth did not come to lie down and battled hard in the first 40, scoring first and constraining Cleckheaton to 15-8 at the break. Coach Dave Harrison roused the troops at half time and with fellow coach Pete Murphy having a brilliant game in the centre of the field, Cleckheaton ran in 5 tries in the 2nd half.

Cleck signed-off the year in style with some enterprising play, which already has the faithful crowd looking forward in anticipation to next season. Northern beat Wheatley Hills to avoid relegation and to allow Cleckheaton to leap-frog the South Yorkshiremen to finish 3rd in the league table.
