Cleckheaton struggle to regain form after enforced layoff
A 6 week break showed as Cleckheaton U14s were soundly beaten 47-0 at Castleford as DJ Hughes reports....
Front row Henry Parkin, Brandon Lockwood and Fred Purdy could not get their usual drive to allow the space for the backs Carleton Hidle, Callum Dixon, Danny Archer and Chris Smith to capitalise. Some good mauling by second row Harry Dezelak, supported by Laurence Collins did manage to get some momentum going allowing debutant Kieron Moss to make a clean break but he was stopped short and despite a good short spell by Cleckheaton they could not breech the Castleford line. Some very poor tackling by Cleckheaton’s usual standard allowed Castleford 5 first half tries of which luckily only 1 was converted. Half Time 27-0.
Second half things did not improve. The back row of Edward Curley, Tom Peel and Charlie McGovern were continually having to make tackles as Castleford dominated preventing scrum half Owens from being able to get quick ball to the backs starving wingers Hughes and Tetley of any possession. 4 more second half tries made it a very long and hard morning for the boys, which could make it an interesting training session on Wednesday !!!
Never mind, with a return match in 2 weeks, there is an early opportunity to gain some revenge !
