Double Joy for the 10's

Cleck U10’s welcomed both Bradford Salem and Skipton to moorend for a double header as the team returned to action after a few weeks off due to bad weather.

Bradford Salem were first up and a new challenge for the team. Cleck started brightly and were straight into the game Robbie Butterworth scoring the first try of the day. Salem bounced straight back instantly which was a good wake up call. Josh Riley scored after some neat footwork and Luke Hopkin used his pace out wide for a try. A rare lapse in defence allowed Salem to pull one back before Aaron Jackson wriggled his way over after some superb tackling. Will Clerehugh was everywhere and Lucy McKay was getting involved. Luke Hopkin again raced most of the field to get his second before half time. Robbie Butterworth got his second straight from the re-start, Tom Oldroyd charged his way through the defence making immediate impact when he came on and Luke Hopkin completed his hat-trick with another long range effort. Salem pulled two deserved trys back but the damage had been done by Cleck as they ran out 8-4 winners. It was encouraging to see great improvement in tackling, passing and rucking which all contributed to a superb performance.

Next up Skipton and after two previous meetings this season both ending in draws the team were up for going one better. Cleck continued where they left off against Salem Will Stephenson getting the first try and his first off the season as he completed his best games to date. Tom Oldroyd continued his strong running to score, Josh Riley also untouchable scoring freely. Jack Wake and Lucas Birts both had good games running well passing and supporting plays as both went extremely close to scoring in the corner only to be just ruled in touch. Aaron Jackson scored again as he battled through the opposition. Robert Butler made some good breaks and Jack Burry had a go increasing his confidence all the time. Robbie Butterworth proved too strong and quick once more, Tom Oldroyd also crossing once more. Robbie Butterworth darted for two more trys grabbing another hat-trick and five for the day then setting up Josh Riley to finish more good attacking play. Skipton pulled a deserved consolation back then Tom Oldroyd earned his hat-trick and fourth of the day to finish the game in style 10-1 to Cleck also taking Skiptons undefeated record of the season away. Well done to all involved!
